This fantastic weapon is definitely not inspired by a certain manga I grew up reading.
Regardless of the inspiration it is perfect to give your monk or other martials and swath of abilities that they can unleash at a moment's notice. It was made to give them a greater variety of ways to slaughter their enemies.
